LPG is a mixture of butane and propane gasses liquefied under pressure. It is a by-product of the crude oil extraction. LPG is;
- Colorless, odorless and flammable
- Stored under pressure in liquid form in special pressurized containers
- Heavier than air
- Added with heavy odor in order to be noticed should there be gas leakage
- Used in Cyprus with 30% Propane + 70% Butane mixture
Under normal conditions (15°C and under 1kg/cm2 pressure) LPG is in gas state, and liquifies under pressure. Although LPGis used while in gas form, it is stored in liquid form. LP is colorless, odorless and highly flammable. A mixture of sulphur and mercaptan is added for odor in order to be noticed should there be a gas leakage. LPG was first used in 1810 in England. In Cyprus, a mixture of 30% Butane and 70% Propane is used. |
